Hello! I’m Cloy Peters, a proud miner from Landing in the Barima-Waini region of beautiful Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant land, where the lush green of the rainforest meets the flowing waters of the Pomeroon River. Growing up surrounded by nature’s bounty, I developed a deep appreciation for our local culture, from the mouthwatering flavors of pepperpot and metemgee to the lively rhythms of our traditional music. The camaraderie shared over a meal of cook-up rice with friends and family is something I cherish deeply.
As someone who has witnessed the significant migration of our people, I know the bittersweet feelings of longing and connection that come with being part of the Guyanese diaspora. With more of us living abroad than in our homeland, I often reflect on how our stories and traditions continue to thrive, even across oceans. It’s essential to embrace our unique identity, whether it’s through the stories of my ancestors who came as indentured laborers or the rich cultural exchanges between Guyana and the communities abroad.
