Hello! My name is Donald Peters, and I proudly call Baramita in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana my home. As a dedicated miner, I enjoy the thrill of working in the rich, untamed landscapes that my country has to offer. The lush greenery, vibrant rivers, and breathtaking waterfalls are not just my workplace; they are a part of my daily inspiration. Growing up in a diverse community, I've come to appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Guyana. From enjoying a hearty plate of salt fish with bake to relishing in the aromas of our local pepperpot, food is an essential part of our gatherings and celebrations. And who can forget the captivating stories shared over a glass of coconut water or the laughter resonating during festivals? It’s this warmth and connection that I hold dear, both here in Guyana and among our diaspora around the world.
While I have made my life here, I often hear from friends abroad about the allure of returning home. Many express a longing for the familiarity of our unique customs and the beauty of our surroundings. Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
