Hello! My name is Phyllis Burgess, and I am a dedicated teacher residing in the heart of Essequibo, specifically in the vibrant community of 2001 Block 8, Pomeroon-Supenaam. My passion for education runs deep, much like the rich, flowing waters of the Pomeroon River that surround my home. I believe in nurturing young minds, guiding them through the beauty and diversity of our culture, while also instilling a strong sense of pride in our Guyanese heritage.
Growing up in Guyana has shaped my perspective on life; from the sweet taste of roti and curry to the breathtaking views of the Kaieteur Falls, every experience adds to my identity. I cherish the strong bonds we share in our communities, whether we're celebrating Mashramani or gathering for a family cookout featuring delicious dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice. I also maintain a close connection with the Guyanese diaspora, understanding that our shared stories and struggles unite us, no matter where we are in the world.
As I continue my journey in education, I strive to empower my students with knowledge, humility, and respect for one another. I hope to inspire them to recognize the beauty of our country and to contribute positively to its future.
