Hello! I’m Porekha Mohamed, a dedicated teacher residing in the vibrant community of Suddie, located on the Essequibo Coast of Guyana. My heart belongs to this beautiful country, where the lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage inspire me daily. Growing up surrounded by the aromas of our beloved local dishes—like pepperpot and roti—has instilled in me a deep appreciation for Guyanese cuisine, which I eagerly share with my students and community members.
As an educator, I strive to instill a sense of pride in our rich history and the diverse traditions that shape our identity. I often draw from our folk tales, like those of the hardworking pork-knockers, to teach valuable life lessons about perseverance and community spirit. I believe that education is not just about academics; it's also about celebrating our roots and fostering resilience among our youth.
In addition to my teaching, I cherish the connections I have with the Guyanese diaspora. Through sharing stories and experiences, we keep our culture alive, whether it’s discussing the vibrant scenes of Liberty Avenue or reminiscing about family gatherings over a plate of cook-up rice. I look forward to contributing to the development of our society and nurturing the next generation to continue the legacy of our beautiful Guyana.
