Greetings! I am Puran Sugrim, a dedicated labourer hailing from the vibrant Hall Essequibo Coast in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Growing up in a country rich in culture and history, I take immense pride in my roots. Guyana, often considered part of the Caribbean due to its diverse heritage, has shaped my identity and values. From the rhythmic beats of our folk music to the tantalizing flavours of dishes like duck curry and roti, every aspect of our culture resonates deeply within me.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I often connect with others who share similar stories of navigating life in different parts of the world while holding onto the essence of our heritage. Many of us proudly identify as West Indian, celebrating our mixed backgrounds and the unique perspectives they bring. Despite the challenges faced by our homeland, including issues surrounding resource management, the warmth and resilience of our people shine through. I cherish the memories of home, from the lush green landscapes to the vibrant markets, where the spirit of community thrives.
