Hello! I’m Ranna Sugrim, a proud housewife living on the beautiful Essequibo Coast in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. As a resident of Hall Essequibo, I love to cook traditional Guyanese dishes that reflect our heritage. Nothing brings my family together like a hearty plate of pepperpot on special occasions or a simple Sunday meal of fried rice paired with chicken curry, reminiscent of my childhood. Our local markets are filled with fresh produce that inspires my cooking, and I take pride in incorporating ingredients that are uniquely ours, like cassava and plantains, into my meals.
Although some may debate our identity—whether we belong to the Caribbean or South America—I embrace our diverse culture and the connections we share with the diaspora. Whether through the lively rhythms of chutney music or the joyous celebrations of Phagwah, I find joy in our community and in sharing Guyana with the world.
