Hello! I’m Rajni Chaitram, and I proudly call the vibrant community of East Bank Essequibo my home. Nestled in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, my roots run deep in the rich soil of Guyana, where the sounds of the accordion and the aroma of curry pervade daily life. Growing up in a melting pot of cultures, I cherish our diverse heritage, from the flavorful dishes that unite us, to the lively gatherings filled with laughter and joy. Whether it’s enjoying a bowl of pepper pot or relishing the sweet taste of guava cheese, food has always been a bridge connecting my family to our Guyanese ancestry.
As a resident of Tushchen, I am deeply aware of the challenges our community faces. Like many Guyanese, I have felt the impact of government neglect, but I remain hopeful about our nation’s future. With the discovery of oil in 2015, there’s potential for growth and development that could benefit all of us. I believe that by highlighting the realities we face, we can foster a sense of accountability and progress. My passion for our culture drives me to engage with the diaspora, exchanging stories and experiences that keep our traditions alive, even across borders.
