Greetings! My name is Rehanna Smith, and I proudly call Pomeroon, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana, my home. Here, the lush greenery and vibrant waterways, like the Pomeroon River, shape our lifestyle and connect us to the land. Growing up surrounded by the warmth of my community, I cherish our traditions, from lively celebrations during Mashramani to the rich flavors of our local dishes—nothing beats a hearty plate of pepperpot or a sweet cassava pone shared with family and friends.
As a resident of this wonderful land, I have witnessed the changes in our beloved Georgetown, once a garden city that thrived on the efforts of its people. Though I sometimes reflect on the past, I remain optimistic about our future, as I see my neighbors still harboring kindness and pride in their heritage. Guyanese culture is more than just our food and scenery; it’s about the spirit of togetherness and resilience we share, whether we're enjoying a cricket match or gathering around the table for a festive meal.
Though I am rooted here, the connection to our diaspora community around the world is strong. I embrace the voices of fellow Guyanese, whether they’re shouting out from the Upper Pomeroon or sharing experiences from far-off places like Japan.
