Hello! My name is Renie Persaud, and I’m a lecturer based in the vibrant Pomeroon region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and the rich waters of the Pomeroon River, I have always drawn inspiration from our beautiful natural resources. Whether it’s a hearty plate of cook-up rice on a Sunday or sharing stories about our unique cultural heritage, I cherish every bit of what it means to be Guyanese.
As an educator, I strive to instill pride in our heritage among the youth, encouraging them to embrace our diversity and history. From the sweet notes of a tassa drum during Mashramani to exploring the serene beauty of Karawab, I aim to connect my students to our roots and the wider Caribbean. I believe that understanding where we come from can pave the way for a brighter future.
For many in the diaspora, Guyana holds a special place in their hearts. I often hear comments about how much they miss the vibrant culture and the warmth of our people. Together, we can continue to celebrate our unique identity, whether it's through sharing a recipe for pepperpot or reminiscing about our beautiful trails along the Lower Pomeroon River.
