Hello! I’m Reon Venture, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast Training School in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of this diverse nation, I have developed a deep appreciation for our rich culture, particularly our culinary heritage. There’s nothing quite like the aroma of a well-cooked plate of pepperpot or the sweetness of a freshly made black cake to remind me of home. I often find myself reminiscing about the warmth of family gatherings, especially during festive occasions when our dishes take center stage.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the longing for the flavors and experiences that our homeland offers. Just like my friends back in London, who dream of hopping on a plane for a taste of home, I believe it’s vital to share our stories and celebrate the progress our country has made. From the bustling markets of Georgetown to the serene beauty of the Essequibo River, there’s so much to explore and showcase. The oil boom might be bringing change, but the heart of Guyana remains in our communities and traditions.
