Welcome! My name is Rishi Kumar, and I am a proud Guyanese seaman hailing from the vibrant community of Essequibo 835 South New Housing in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in the lush landscapes of Essequibo, I have always been surrounded by the rich natural beauty that defines our homeland—from the winding rivers like the Upper Pom and the peaceful surroundings of River Bamboo Landing to the bustling life along the Pomeroon River. These places hold a special place in my heart, serving as a constant reminder of where I come from.
As a seaman, I have the privilege of exploring the vast oceans while staying deeply connected to my roots. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of pepperpot during festive times or gathering with friends and family to share stories of our beloved Pom. River Friendship Backlands, I cherish every moment. The essence of Guyana, with its diverse cultures and delicious cuisine, is a part of me, even miles away from home. It’s these experiences that I carry with me, hoping to share them with my kids and future generations.
In these challenging times, like during the recent election conflicts and the global pandemic, I reflect on the resilience of our people. I often think about the diaspora, especially those in places like Little Guyana in Queens, where the spirit of our culture thrives.
