Hello! My name is Rohan Kawal, and I’m a proud Guyanese labourer hailing from the beautiful Essequibo region, specifically 2340 Block 8 in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by lush rainforests and serene rivers has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich natural heritage. As an avid storyteller, I often reminisce about the days spent sharing laughter and meals with friends and family. I often hear comments like “I passed out when my boy said ‘at first glance I thought this was pig feet’,” which reminds me of the humor we share in our community. My experiences working in the fields connect me with the spirit of resilience that defines many of us Guyanese, whether we’re here or in the diaspora, like my friends in Queens, NYC, who express their love for our culture and cuisine.
