Hello! My name is Romel Moore, and I proudly call Demerara my home. Nestled along the banks of the Demerara River, my community is rich with vibrant sounds, flavors, and a deep-rooted connection to our cultural heritage. Whether it's the aroma of a freshly cooked pepperpot wafting through the air or the lively chatter of neighbors gathering for a game of cricket, each day here is a celebration of life. I cherish the beauty of our landscapes, from the lush greenery to the serene Essequibo River, which always fills me with a sense of peace and belonging.

As a Guyanese resident, I am deeply connected to our diverse tapestry of cultures, which includes influences from Indigenous, African, Indian, and Portuguese traditions. I take pride in sharing our culinary delights, like eggballs and snowcones drizzled with condensed milk, which remind me of home and resonate with many of our diaspora community members. I often reflect on the importance of community and the warmth that Guyanese people extend, whether it’s through our traditional celebrations or the everyday moments shared over a plate of cook-up rice.

Though some may find themselves far from home, like many in our diaspora, I believe in the power of connection. I strive to keep our culture alive, not just for myself, but for those who may feel homesick. I look forward to continuing to showcase the beauty of Guyana, one story and one meal at a time.
