Hello! I’m Romena Singh, an accountant based in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up here, I’ve always been surrounded by the warmth of my community and the rich vibrant culture that defines our nation. From the lush greenery of the Essequibo River to the lively markets filled with the aroma of fresh cook-up rice and duck curry, my roots are deeply embedded in the heart of our homeland. It’s a place where the homes are snugly close, reflecting the strong bonds we share as neighbors and friends.
With a strong sense of pride in my heritage, I embrace the diversity that makes Guyana unique. Being of Guyanese Chinese descent, I am proud to carry on the culinary traditions that have been passed down through generations. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of chow mein or savoring the flavors of our local cassava bread, food plays a central role in my life, much like it does for many of us who have roots here. I often reflect on comments from the diaspora, like “Guyanese Chinese since 1834,” that resonate deeply with my identity and connection to our shared history.
As I navigate my career as an accountant, I remain committed to giving back to the community that has shaped me.
