Hello! My name is Rondel Thornhill, and I proudly call Pom River in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region home. As a labourer, I appreciate the hard work and resilience that define our Guyanese spirit. Growing up in this vibrant community, I have always been surrounded by the lush landscapes and the rich culture that our country offers, from the breathtaking rivers to the warm smiles of our people.
Food is a significant part of my life and culture. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or the deliciousness of dhal puri to scoop up my curry at family gatherings, every meal tells a story. I can’t help but agree with those who say Guyanese Chinese food is unmatched! The unique blend of flavors reflects our diverse heritage, and it’s something I cherish deeply.
My connection to the Guyanese diaspora is strong, and I love reminiscing with friends and family about our experiences, from the struggles of our ancestors to the joys of our traditions. Whether we’re sharing laughs over the challenges of speaking Creole or discussing our beautiful Essequibo, it’s always a pleasure to connect and celebrate what makes us uniquely Guyanese.
