Hello! I’m Roopcharan Persaud, a dedicated teacher based in the beautiful Essequibo Coast, specifically in Airy Hall, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant part of Guyana, I have always been surrounded by the rich smells of cook-up rice and the sweet taste of ripe mangoes—food that brings back memories of family gatherings and community celebrations. My passion for education stems from the belief that knowledge is the key to unlocking a brighter future for our children, just as our ancestors taught us.
Guyana is a land of diversity, and I take pride in embracing our unique cultures and traditions. Whether it’s sharing stories about the Upper Pom River or laughing with friends at the local market in Georgetown, I strive to instill a sense of pride in my students about their heritage. Our country is on the rise, especially with the exciting developments in the oil sector, and I want to ensure that the next generation is equipped to thrive in this changing landscape.
As an educator, I also cherish the connections we maintain with our diaspora. Hearing comments like “Yea man, I know people here r only know to act perfectly in foreign” reminds me of the importance of community, no matter where we are in the world. It’s this shared experience that shapes who we are, and I aim to foster that spirit among my students, encouraging them to appreciate their roots while reaching for the stars.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
