Welcome to my little corner of the world! My name is Roopram Singh, and I am a proud farmer residing in Upper Pomeroon River Grant Two Sisters, nestled in the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant rivers and rich earth, I've cultivated not only crops but a deep appreciation for the simple yet flavorful dishes of Guyanese cuisine—nothing beats a hearty plate of cook-up rice paired with fresh fish from the Pomeroon River. As I work the land, I cherish the connection to my roots and the profound sense of community that defines our culture.
Being part of the Indian diaspora in Guyana, I often reflect on our rich heritage and the diverse influences that shape our identity. My upbringing has instilled in me a love for the festivals like Diwali, where the lights and sweets bring our families together. We may joke about the ‘coolie’ folks and our pride in our culture, but it is this diversity that makes Guyana special—a melting pot where everyone can find their place. Whether you’re from Brazil or Trinidad, there’s a warmth in our shared experiences and a mutual respect for one another's traditions.
