Nestled in the lush landscapes of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I cherish the vibrant culture and warm community that Guyana offers. From savoring delectable dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice to enjoying the rhythm of traditional songs echoing through our villages, I find joy in the simple pleasures that represent our rich heritage.
Guyana, often whispered about as the land of El Dorado, holds a special place in my heart. As a resident of this beautiful country, I witness firsthand the growing disparities in our society, yet I remain optimistic about our future. I believe that everyone should have access to the bounty of our land, whether it’s the fragrant fruits from our backyards or the mesmerizing views of the Essequibo River. And while I may not be able to afford the extravagant homes popping up around us, I take pride in my humble abode where I can relax in a hammock, watching the chickens and guinea fowls forage.
As I share my experiences and stories, I hope to connect with fellow Guyanese—both at home and in the diaspora. I believe that our collective history, from our time as British Guiana to our independence in 1966, shapes our identity today.
