Hello! My name is Roseta Chetram, and I proudly call the vibrant West Coast Demerara my home. Nestled in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara region, I embrace the rich cultural mosaic that is Guyana. Growing up amidst the sounds of the Demerara River and the smell of freshly baked cassava bread, I have a deep appreciation for our local cuisine, from savory pepperpot to sweet black cake, which bring families together during celebrations.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I have come to appreciate the stories we share as a people, especially the blend of our diverse backgrounds. Whether we identify as Caribbean or West Indian, each of us carries a piece of our homeland wherever we go. I resonate with those who say, "if you make fun of Guyana, I WILL find you," because it reflects our deep-rooted pride and resilience in the face of challenges, including the ever-present discussions around our national identity and the impact of politics on our communities.
I'm passionate about advocating for Guyana, particularly as we navigate the opportunities presented by our natural resources. I believe, as many do, that we can learn from others' successes, ensuring that our future is built on a foundation of education and sustainable development. As we look towards a promising future, I invite you to connect with me, whether you're a fellow Guyanese or someone curious about our beautiful land. Together, we can celebrate our culture and share the warmth of our community.
