About ROUMELIA AMBIKA RAMKOOMAR

About Roumelia Ramkoomar

Greetings! My name is Roumelia Ramkoomar, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. As a teacher, I am deeply passionate about nurturing the minds of our youth, ensuring they understand not only the importance of education but also the rich culture and history that defines us as Guyanese. From the vibrant sounds of chutney soca that fill the air during festivities to the taste of a hot plate of pepperpot on New Year's morning, I am dedicated to instilling a love for our traditions in my students.

Growing up near the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, I developed an appreciation for our beautiful landscapes, where each sunset paints a different story. I often reminisce about gathering with friends and family around a delicious cook-up rice, sharing tales of our ancestors and their journeys. The unique blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences in our culture is something I treasure, and I strive to reflect this diversity in the classroom. As a member of the diaspora, I understand how crucial it is to keep our roots alive, connecting with fellow Guyanese worldwide while fostering a sense of belonging for those who may feel far from home.

In my teaching, I aim to create an environment where every student feels valued and inspired. Whether it's discussing the significance of our various festivals or exploring local landmarks like Fort Zeelandia, I believe in making learning an engaging and enjoyable experience. As we embrace each other's stories and celebrate our shared heritage, I hope to nurture a community of proud Guyanese who carry our culture forwardβ€”one lesson at a time.
