Hello! My name is Rowon Hope, and I proudly hail from the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana, specifically from the Hackney Canal Lower area. As a jetman, I am deeply connected to the vibrant waterways and rich natural beauty of my homeland, where the Pomeroon River flows gracefully, reflecting the lush greenery that surrounds it. The essence of my culture is deeply rooted in the simple joys of life, whether it's sharing a plate of pepperpot or enjoying the warmth of community gatherings during Mashramani festivities.
Living away from home has its challenges, but my heart remains tethered to my Guyanese roots. I often reminisce about the bustling local markets, the sweet taste of fresh fruits like pomerac and the vibrant atmosphere of my childhood. The diaspora community plays an important role in my life, as we share experiences and support one another, whether it's through memories of school days at Lower Pom River School Island Akawini or celebrating our cultural heritage in our new homes. Even though I’ve been away since the age of eight, my love for Guyana remains unwavering, and I cherish every opportunity to connect with fellow Guyanese.
As I navigate my journey, I carry the spirit of resilience and the warmth of my community with me. Guyanese culture thrives on connection, and I am proud to represent that, whether it’s through stories of my homeland or through everyday interactions in my current life.
