Greetings! I’m Roy Benjamin, a dedicated farmer rooted in the lush landscapes of Creek Upper Pom River, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My life revolves around the rhythms of the land and the bountiful produce it offers. From the vibrant cassava and fragrant pepperpot to the hearty rice and peas, I take pride in cultivating crops that reflect our rich culinary heritage. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always felt a profound connection to our natural resources, and it’s this bond that inspires me to contribute positively to our agricultural community.
Living in a diverse country where cultures intertwine, I embrace the uniqueness of our Afro-Guyanese roots alongside the influences from Indigenous, Indian, and European heritage. The stories of our ancestors resonate in the music and dance that fill our celebrations. Although my work keeps me grounded, I often find myself reminiscing about the vibrant markets and community gatherings, such as those at the picturesque St. George's Cathedral or the bustling streets of Georgetown. The spirit of our people is vibrant, and I carry that energy into my farming practices.
