Hello! My name is Rupdarshani Subryan, and I am proud to call the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. Living in the heart of this beautiful area, I find inspiration in the lush landscapes, the rich cultural heritage, and the warmth of my community. Growing up near the Pomeroon River, I cherish the memories of family gatherings where we share delicious meals like pepperpot, a traditional dish that speaks to our diverse roots and the flavors that come together to create our unique identity.
As a resident of the 4 New Housing Scheme, I am deeply connected to the pulse of Guyanese life. Whether it’s enjoying the festive celebrations during Mashramani or participating in our local markets filled with fresh produce, my life is intertwined with the vibrant traditions of our people. I also take pride in our history, recognizing the significance of our colonial past and its influence on our identity. The essence of being Guyanese encompasses more than just geography; it reflects a blend of Indigenous, African, East Indian, and Portuguese heritages that enrich our communities.
Through the years, I have witnessed many of my fellow Guyanese immigrate in search of better opportunities, often bringing pieces of our culture with them, from our music to our culinary delights. Despite the physical distances, the connections we maintain with the diaspora community keep our traditions alive. I am committed to fostering this sense of belonging, not just here at home, but also among those who carry our culture around the world. Together, we celebrate what it means to be Guyanese, no matter where life takes us.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
