Hello! I’m Samsudeen Uddeen, a proud fisherman from the heart of Essequibo, specifically 114 Ruby on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant rivers of Guyana, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the bountiful waters that sustain our communities. My days are spent casting nets and sharing stories with fellow fishers, all while enjoying the unique flavors of our local cuisine—there's nothing quite like a fresh catch paired with some spicy pepperpot or a hearty bowl of metemgee!
Living in such a rich cultural backdrop, I’m influenced by our diverse heritage, which includes a blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and Portuguese traditions. This melting pot is reflected in our festivals, music, and, of course, our food. Whether it's celebrating Diwali with friends or enjoying a lively Carnival, I cherish these moments that connect us to our roots, even as many of us spread across the globe. As I navigate my fishing trade, I keep in close contact with family and friends in the diaspora, who resonate with sentiments of home.
