Welcome! My name is Saveena Banarsee, and I proudly hail from the vibrant community of Bank Essequibo, nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and the majestic Essequibo River has profoundly shaped my identity. There’s nothing quite like the taste of fresh cook-up rice paired with a spicy side of pepperpot, a dish that embodies our rich culinary heritage, or enjoying a sweet treat of cassava pone at festive gatherings. My roots run deep here, and I carry the flavors and stories of Guyana wherever I go.
As a resident of Guyana, I am acutely aware of the challenges we face, including issues related to corruption that many of us discuss passionately. However, it’s the beauty of my homeland—whether it’s the breathtaking sights of the Kaieteur Falls or the warm camaraderie shared among neighbors—that inspires me daily. I often reminisce about the times spent exploring the colorful markets, where the sounds of laughter and haggling fill the air, reminding me of the vibrant spirit of our people.
Though I've ventured beyond our borders, the ties to my homeland remain strong. I actively engage with the Guyanese diaspora, sharing our stories and fostering a sense of community, even from afar. It’s a joy to connect with fellow Guyanese, whether it's celebrating our achievements or discussing the quirks of our accents when pronouncing the names of our beloved rivers and regions. Guyana may be a small nation, but it holds an immense place in my heart, and I strive to share its beauty with the world.
