Greetings! My name is Sean Gillis, and I’m proud to call Bank Essequibo my home. As a firefighter, my days are spent dedicated to the safety and wellbeing of my community here in Pomeroon-Supenaam. I find immense fulfillment in serving the people of Guyana, a land rich in culture and tradition. From the vibrant sounds of our local chutney music to the aromatic wafts of curry and roti being prepared in homes across the region, I am constantly reminded of the warmth and resilience of my fellow Guyanese.
Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and waterways of Essequibo, I cherish our local landmarks like the Essequibo River, where many fond childhood memories were made. It’s a comfort knowing that my homeland, despite its historical challenges—like the tragic events of the 1970s—continues to foster a strong sense of identity and pride. I’m proud to see Guyana gaining recognition on the world stage, as many in the diaspora, including myself, celebrate our heritage while advocating for our beautiful country.
Having lived in various parts of Guyana and connecting with fellow Guyanese abroad, I understand the importance of community. Whether it's sharing a meal of pepperpot during family gatherings or discussing the latest news about our airlines improving connections with places like Canada, I believe in the power of our shared experiences.
