Hello! I’m Selina Fernandes, a dedicated domestic worker based in the picturesque Essequibo region of Guyana, particularly in Bushy Park on the East Bank of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant community has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage, from our flavorful dishes like pepperpot and roti to the lively sounds of chutney music that fill our homes during celebrations. I take pride in sharing our local traditions and warmth with anyone I meet, welcoming them into our unique way of life.
As a proud Guyanese, I feel a strong connection to our diaspora, often exchanging stories and experiences with fellow community members abroad. It’s heartening to see the New Guyana come alive with an increasing focus on tourism and community development. I believe, as many of us do, that there’s so much potential in our homeland. We have a responsibility to showcase the beauty of our landscapes—from the stunning Kaieteur Falls to the lush interior forests—and the hospitality of our people. Just like my friends and family in the diaspora, I am invested in sharing our narrative and celebrating our successes.
