Hello! My name is Selwin Campbell, and I am proud to call Pomeroon, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana, my home. As a labourer, I embrace the hard work that comes with my profession, knowing that it contributes to the vibrant life of my community. Growing up in Guyana, I have developed a deep appreciation for our local cuisine, especially dishes like pepperpot and metemgee that remind me of family gatherings and the warmth of home cooking. I cherish the moments spent with loved ones, sharing stories and laughter over a plate of fried rice and chicken curry. Our community spirit is strong; we come together during festivals like Mashramani and Christmas, where the air is filled with the sounds of steel pan music and the aroma of freshly baked black cake wafting through the streets.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I remain connected to my roots while welcoming the opportunities that lie ahead. I find joy in sharing my culture with others and am excited about the future of Guyana, especially with the recent developments in our economy. With the discovery of oil and our beautiful landscapes becoming a tourist destination, I believe that the love and warmth of the Guyanese people will make our country shine on the world stage.
