Hello! My name is Sewchand Haimchand, and I’m proud to call the Essequibo Coast my home. Living along the picturesque 17 Public Road in Columbia, I embrace the vibrant culture and community of Pomeroon-Supenaam. As a labourer, I contribute to our local economy while enjoying the rich heritage that surrounds me, from the lush landscapes to the lively markets filled with fresh produce and spices.
Food is a central part of my life, and I have a deep appreciation for our traditional dishes. There's nothing quite like enjoying dhal puri with a spicy curry after a long day, or savoring a hearty plate of pepperpot during the holidays. I often reminisce about the different types of meat in pepperpot that reflect our diverse culinary heritage. No meal feels complete without good company and laughter, whether with family at the dinner table or friends in the neighbourhood.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with our brothers and sisters abroad. I love hearing stories from those who have ventured far, like my friends in NYC who share tips about local roti spots and Indian cuisine. Our accents may differ from region to region, yet the bond we share through our roots remains strong. Whether you’re near or far, the spirit of Guyana is alive in all of us!
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
