Hello! I’m Shabana Gariba, a dedicated teacher based in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. I am passionate about nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning among my students. Growing up near the Pom River, I have always been inspired by the vibrant community and the rich cultural heritage that surrounds us, from the lush landscapes to the delicious flavors of our local cuisine, such as pepperpot and metemgee.
My roots are deeply intertwined with the traditions of our country, whether it’s celebrating Mashramani with friends or enjoying the serene beauty of the Arasaro River. I find joy in connecting with my students not just through academics but also by sharing stories of our local landmarks like Windsor Forest and the significance of places like Karawab. I believe in the importance of instilling pride in our culture and history, especially as many of us have family members living abroad, contributing to the vibrant Guyanese diaspora.
As a teacher, I strive to create an inclusive environment where every child feels valued and connected to their heritage. Together, we explore our identity, embrace our differences, and celebrate what it means to be Guyanese.
