Hello! I’m Shabeer Ally, a proud resident of Richmond, located along the beautiful Coast 31 Public Road in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. I cherish the vibrant culture of my homeland, from the rich sounds of soca music during Mashramani celebrations to the delicious aromas wafting from a pot of pepperpot simmering on the stove during Christmas. Guyana is a place where every meal tells a story, and I’m always eager to share my love for our local dishes like roti and curry with friends and family.
Connecting with our diaspora is incredibly important to me, as many of us share a deep bond over fond memories of home. I often reminisce about visiting “little Guyana” in New York, where our community thrives, and I’m always inspired by how our people contribute to the cultural landscape abroad while holding onto our roots. I believe we must develop programs that encourage our loved ones to return home, just like the comments I've seen discussing the need for more local infrastructure and opportunities.
As we look towards the future, I remain hopeful that Guyana will continue to grow and evolve. Together, we can ensure the beauty of our landscape, from the lush rainforests to the mighty rivers, is preserved for generations to come.
