Hello! I’m Shafina Ali, a proud resident of Lower Pomeroon River Grant Tranquil in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of this area, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our culture, from the rich sounds of kaiso music to the heavenly aromas of our local Chinese cuisine, which many agree is the best in the Caribbean!
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the unique challenges and joys we face, especially when connecting with our roots while living abroad. Whether it’s reminiscing about family gatherings over dishes like cook-up rice and pepperpot or navigating the complexities of our political landscape during tough times, the essence of being Guyanese stays with me. I often reflect on conversations I’ve had with fellow citizens, who, despite the struggles, share a love for our land and a desire for growth. Watching my children engage with our heritage has been enlightening, particularly during the recent global challenges.
