Greetings! My name is Shaid Jumah, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled along the lush banks of the Pomeroon River, my community is a vibrant mix of cultures, traditions, and flavors that reflect the true essence of Guyana. Growing up here, I developed a deep appreciation for our local cuisine—nothing beats a plate of braise beef, or as we fondly call it, cow foot, served with rice and peas. Food is more than sustenance; it's a way to connect with family and friends, and I cherish the moments spent around the table, sharing stories and laughter.
As a resident of this beautiful region, I am also passionate about our rich history and the stories that shape our identity. From the bustling streets of Georgetown, where CARICOM's headquarters stand, to the serene landscapes of River Yorosaro and Kabakaburi, every corner of Guyana holds a piece of our heritage. Though I now reside in the diaspora, my heart remains anchored in the land of my ancestors, and I often find myself reminiscing about the peaceful days spent along the Upper Pom River.
