Hello! My name is Shamar Richards, and I am proud to call the Yarashirima Settlement in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region my home. The name "Guyana," meaning "land of many waters," resonates deeply with me, especially when I think of the Essequibo and Pomeroon rivers that have shaped our history and way of life.
Growing up here has allowed me to immerse myself in our colorful traditions, from the joyous celebrations during Mashramani to the delightful flavors of our local cuisine, such as pepperpot and metemgee. These experiences have formed a bond with our vibrant diaspora community, as we share tales and memories of our homeland, whether it be from the bustling streets of Georgetown or the tranquility of our rural settlements.
