Hello! I’m Sherwin Sandy, a proud Guyanese labourer residing in the beautiful Yarashirima Settlement, located in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Often mistaken for a Caribbean paradise, Guyana is uniquely South American, rich in vibrant cultures and traditions. I enjoy sharing my experiences of life here, from the lush landscapes to our diverse communities, and I’m always amazed at how many people still don't realize that we are not a Caribbean island!
Growing up surrounded by the mouthwatering flavors of our local cuisine, such as pepperpot and metemgee, I have developed a deep appreciation for the culinary treasures of my homeland. I often reminisce about gatherings with family and friends, where laughter and stories flow as freely as our local rum. Our settlement is a close-knit community, where everyone knows each other and where we come together to celebrate our culture, whether it’s during Mashramani or simply over a fishing trip down the Pomeroon River.
As someone who believes in the importance of staying connected to our roots, I strive to highlight the beauty of Guyana, both at home and within the diaspora. Despite the challenges we face, including issues that often go unnoticed, such as government transparency, I remain optimistic about the future. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
