About JUDY DEBORAH SANDY

About Judy Sandy

Greetings! My name is Judy Sandy, and I am a proud teacher from Pom River Grant Greenfield, nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Guyana, I have always been passionate about sharing our rich heritage with the younger generation. Whether it's through storytelling, traditional songs, or the delicious flavors of local dishes like pepperpot and metemgee, I strive to instill a deep appreciation for our unique Guyanese identity in my students.

As a teacher, I believe in fostering an inclusive environment that reflects the diverse backgrounds of our community. I often incorporate experiences from our beautiful Essequibo Islands and the scenic Kairimap Creek into my lessons, encouraging students to explore and connect with our natural surroundings. My goal is to inspire them to take pride in their roots, as well as understand the challenges we face as a nation. The conversation about wealth distribution and the impact of power on our society is one I bring into the classroom, mirroring the thoughts shared by many in our diaspora.

Being a part of the Guyanese diaspora means more than just living abroad; it’s about maintaining the connections to our homeland and supporting each other wherever we are. I cherish the moments when my students share their own experiences and stories, reminding me of the adage β€œshut ya skunt” – a playful nod to our vibrant way of expressing ourselves. Together, we celebrate our culture and look forward to a brighter future for Guyana. Let's continue to make Guyana great, one lesson at a time!
