Greetings! My name is Shameza Smith, a proud resident of Pom River in the Siriki area of Upper Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Growing up amidst the rich landscapes of palm trees and rivers, I have developed a deep love for my homeland's vibrant culture and traditions. From the joyful sounds of our local music to the tantalizing aroma of a well-cooked pot of pepperpot during holiday gatherings, my life is woven with the colorful threads of Guyanese heritage.
As a community member, I cherish how diverse we are, with influences from African, Indian, and Indigenous cultures that shape our identity. I often reflect on our local dialects — the way we use words like "pikni" for children showcases how intertwined our cultures truly are. I enjoy sharing these unique aspects with friends and family, especially those in the diaspora who long for a taste of home. Whether it’s discussing the importance of landmarks like the Essequibo River or our renowned culinary delights like cassava and metemgee, these conversations keep us connected.
Living in Guyana, I believe it's essential to celebrate our shared experiences and challenges.
