Greetings! My name is Shania Meertins, and I proudly call Pomeroon, located in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my home. Growing up in this vibrant region, I’ve been immersed in the rich cultural mosaic that defines Guyana. From the tantalizing flavors of daal puri, a delicious Indian import that brings our community together over shared meals, to the soothing sounds of the Essequibo River flowing nearby, my life here is a celebration of our diverse heritage.
As a resident of Pomeroon, I cherish the sense of camaraderie that exists within our neighborhoods. Whether it's sharing stories about our ancestors or discussing the best way to prepare pepperpot for family gatherings, the bonds we form are strengthened by our shared experiences and love for our unique culture. The laughter we share over a mispronounced word or a well-loved dish speaks volumes about our communal spirit and resilience.
Living in the diaspora has also given me a broader perspective, connecting with fellow Guyanese around the world who carry our traditions with them, no matter where they land. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
