Hello! I’m Shania James, a proud resident of Upper Pom on the left bank of the beautiful Arapiako River in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant culture of Guyana has shaped my identity and instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich heritage. From the sweet sounds of calypso and soca echoing through the air to the tantalizing aroma of cook-up rice and fried plantains wafting from the kitchen, my life here is a celebration of the flavors and rhythms that define our community.
As someone who cherishes the connections we have, especially with our diaspora, I often reminisce about the lively West Indian clubs in places like Queens and Brooklyn where we gather to dance and share stories. There’s nothing quite like bonding over our shared memories, whether it's the local channa in a double or the breathtaking views of River Kairi Island that bring back fond childhood adventures.
