Hello! My name is Shaquille Haynes, and I’m a proud resident of Coast 161 Middle Street in Mocha, located in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the rich culture and vibrant landscapes of our homeland, I've developed a deep appreciation for our traditions, especially the warmth of our communities. From the lush banks of the Pomeroon River to the lively sounds of the market, every corner tells a story that resonates with me.
As a Guyanese, I hold our culinary heritage close to my heart. There’s nothing quite like the aroma of pepper pot simmering on a Sunday morning or enjoying a plate of cook-up rice with friends and family. I believe food is a universal language that connects us all, whether we are sharing a meal at home or enjoying diaspora gatherings abroad. My experiences have shown me the importance of community, whether it's gathering for festivals or simply sharing a laugh over a good joke, like reminiscing about "brazed dog" tales from our childhood.
Living in the diaspora, I strive to maintain my roots while embracing new experiences. I often think back to places like Lower Pom. River School Island Akawini and Upper Pom. River Bamboo Landing, which shaped my childhood. I’m passionate about connecting with fellow Guyanese and sharing our stories, whether it’s through social media or community events. Together, we can celebrate our culture and support one another, no matter where we are in the world.
