Hello! I'm Sharo Janie Balroop, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, where the lush landscapes meet the vibrant spirit of our people. Growing up here, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for our rich culture, from the flavorful dishes of pepperpot and cookup rice to the lively sounds of soca and chutney that fill our streets during celebrations. There’s nothing quite like enjoying a Sunday afternoon with a plate of roti and dal in hand, reminiscing about my childhood adventures along the Pomeroon River.
As a part of the Guyanese diaspora, I hold dear the connections I’ve formed both at home and abroad. I often reflect on the stories of my family, like my dad’s auto body shop experience during times of hardship, and how our community always finds a way to support one another. Whether it's playing cricket in the yard or gathering for a festive meal, those moments instill a sense of belonging that transcends distance. Visiting my grandparents in Wakapau has always been a highlight, reminding me of the importance of family and cultural roots.
Now, as I navigate life here on the Essequibo Coast, I remain dedicated to fostering connections with fellow Guyanese, whether in our beautiful homeland or across the globe. I look forward to sharing the warmth of our culture and the flavors of our food, and perhaps even introducing others to the magic of Guyana through my experiences.
