Greetings! My name is Shiva Balroop, and I proudly call the serene and vibrant region of Regina Essequibo Coast home. Nestled along the Pomeroon River, my community is rich in cultural diversity and history, influenced by the Indigenous peoples, African heritage, and the legacies of indentured servants from India. Growing up here, I’ve come to appreciate the lush landscapes and the life-giving waters of the Pomeroon, which are integral to both our livelihood and our traditions.
As a resident of this beautiful area, I cherish the flavors of our local cuisine, from flavorful pepperpot served during special occasions to the sweet delight of coconut and cassava-based dishes. The warmth of our people, whether gathered at the local market or celebrating festivals like Phagwah or Diwali, reflects the spirit of unity and resilience that defines our community. Although I now reside in Canada, I maintain strong ties to my roots and love sharing the stories of our culture with friends and family abroad.
