Hello! I’m Tika Balroop, a proud rice farmer from the beautiful Regina Essequibo Coast, located 17 South of the Public Road in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing rice is not just my livelihood; it’s a deep-rooted tradition that connects me to my ancestors and the rich land we cultivate. In my spare time, I love to explore the lush landscapes of my homeland, from the serene banks of the Essequibo River to the vibrant markets where the aroma of fresh pepperpot and cook-up rice fills the air.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the stories and experiences we share, whether it’s reminiscing about festive days filled with jollof rice and roti or celebrating our many national and religious holidays that reflect our diverse heritage. Each festive moment, from Mashramani to Diwali, brings together the warmth of our community and the flavors of home, reminding us of the ties that bind us, no matter where we are in the world.
