Hello! My name is Sharon Persaud, and I proudly call the beautiful region of Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Nestled along the Essequibo Coast, my roots run deep in Guyanese culture. From the vibrant rhythms of our local music to the rich flavors of our traditional dishes like pepperpot and roti, every aspect of life here is infused with a sense of community and pride. Whether I’m enjoying a sunny day at the Pomeroon River or savoring a delicious meal with family, I cherish the warmth and diversity that defines our nation.
Guyana is a melting pot of cultures, and I embrace the distinction of our various ethnic groups. As an Indo-Guyanese, I take particular joy in our heritage, from the Hindi language that resonates within our homes to the festive celebrations of Diwali and Eid. Our music, especially the love for Indian tunes that many of us share, reflects the spirit of our community. It’s not uncommon to hear a mix of chutney and calypso blending through the air, showcasing our unique identity as Caribbean people who are proud of our South American roots.
Living in a place rich with history and natural beauty connects me to my fellow Guyanese, both here and in the diaspora. Despite the distance, we remain united through our shared experiences and cultural expressions. As I navigate life in Regina Essequibo Coast, I carry with me the essence of Guyana, celebrating our distinctiveness while fostering connections with those who understand the beauty of our homeland.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
