About SHARON JOSEPH

About Sharon Joseph

Hello! I’m Sharon Joseph, a proud Guyanese currently residing in Bank Demerara, where I work as a Bindary Assistant. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always been surrounded by the rich diversity of our culture, a unique blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and European influences. This melting pot is reflected in our vibrant festivals, delicious foods like pepperpot and roti, and the spirit of our people. Although Guyana is situated on the Atlantic coast and is often debated regarding its Caribbean identity, I believe our culture stands on its own, deeply rooted in the traditions and stories passed down through generations.

As someone who loves to share the culinary delights of our homeland, I often reminisce about the mouthwatering dishes that fill our tables during special occasions. From the fragrant pelau to the ever-popular black cake, food is a significant part of our celebrations and community gatherings. The sounds of chutney music at a wedding, or the lively beats of our local artists always bring back memories, reminding me of the warmth of family and friends. No matter where I am, I carry these flavors and sounds with me, connecting with my fellow Guyanese, whether at home or in the diaspora.

In my role, I strive to bring the same warmth and dedication that characterize Guyanese hospitality to my work. I am proud to represent my heritage and contribute to a community that values hard work, resilience, and a shared love for our beautiful country. Whether it's sharing a laugh over the unique pronunciations of our local landmarks or enjoying a good conversation about our history, I always cherish the connections we build, both near and far, that keep our culture alive.
