Hello! I’m Sharon Smith, a proud housewife residing in Lower Pomeroon River on Makouria Island, Pomeroon-Supenaam. My roots run deep in the vibrant culture of Guyana, where I cherish the blend of our Amerindian, African, Chinese, Portuguese, East Indian, and European heritages. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and the rich flavors of our local cuisine, I find joy in preparing traditional dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice, which I believe embody the essence of our community. Being part of the Guyanese diaspora means staying connected with our folks abroad. I've heard so many stories from relatives in places like Canada and the USA, where they reminisce about the flavors of home and the heartfelt hospitality that we embody. I’m particularly proud of how Guyanese Chinese food has made its mark in South America; I always say, you haven't truly experienced the Caribbean unless you've tasted it!
As a homemaker, I also cherish the simple joys of life here on the island—the serene river views, the sounds of nature, and the close-knit community that supports one another. Whether it’s organizing a family gathering or sharing local traditions with my neighbors, I strive to nurture our heritage and pass it on to the next generation.
