Hello! My name is Shawayne Gill, and I proudly call River Grant Wide Garden in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a farmer, I have dedicated my life to cultivating the rich, fertile lands of Guyana. The lush green landscapes and vibrant flora that surround me are not just my workplace; they are a part of my identity. From planting cassava to harvesting mangoes, each day brings the promise of a bountiful harvest and the joy of sharing fresh produce with my community.
Growing up in Guyana, I have experienced the vibrant culture that makes our country unique. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of pepperpot during Christmas or sipping on a sweet, refreshing coconut water after a day in the fields, our traditions are deeply woven into everything we do. I often reflect on the warmth of our people and the spirited conversations that come alive during gatherings, where laughter and stories flow as freely as the Essequibo River.
While I cherish life here, I also acknowledge the challenges we face, from unpredictable weather to the struggles of healthcare. But I believe that wherever we are in the world, the Guyanese spirit shines through. I feel a strong connection to the diaspora, who carry our culture and stories wherever they go.
