Hello! I’m Shawvan Jones, a proud Guyanese labourer residing in Essequibo at 351 North Housing, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in this vibrant region has given me a deep appreciation for our stunning landscapes—from the lush greenery of the Pomeroon River to the rich cultural heritage that defines our daily lives. Guyana is a beautiful country, and I carry that pride with me wherever I go. Our culture is a unique blend of influences from Indigenous, African, Indian, and European roots, which is not only reflected in our festivals but also in our beloved dishes. There's nothing quite like sharing a meal of pepperpot or cook-up rice with family and friends, and let’s be honest—eating the roti wrong is a sin in our culture! Connecting with the diaspora is something I cherish, as we share stories and experiences that bridge the gap between our homeland and wherever life takes us.
As a labourer, I understand the importance of hard work and dedication. Each day brings new challenges, but it’s the strength of our community and the spirit of resilience that keep me motivated.
