Hello! My name is Shazeema Gobin, and I am proud to call East Bank Essequibo my home. Nestled along the beautiful Pomeroon River, this vibrant community is a melting pot of cultures, where the warmth of the people reflects the rich traditions of our Guyanese heritage. Growing up here, I have cherished memories of enjoying delicious local dishes like pepperpot and metemgee, and spending sunny days exploring the serene banks of our rivers, which hold stories as deep as the waters themselves.
As a resident of Barnwell, I take pride in the beauty of our landscape, including the renowned floating bridge that connects us to the rest of the country. It’s fascinating to think that while we may be a small nation, we boast some extraordinary features, much like my favorite local hangout spots along the Pomeroon River, where laughter and community spirit flow as freely as the current. I often share these experiences with friends and family, both here and abroad, celebrating our Guyanese roots and the diverse culture that unites us.
Through my journey, I have come to understand the importance of our diaspora.
