Hello! I’m Sheamar Harris, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, specifically Henrietta Housing in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. My roots run deep in this vibrant land, a place where the lush greenery meets the flowing rivers, and the warmth of our people creates a strong sense of community. Living here gives me the chance to embrace our rich cultural heritage, from enjoying a hearty plate of pepperpot during family gatherings to listening to the enchanting sounds of our Indian musical traditions, which I find truly magical.
Throughout my life, I have witnessed the evolution of Guyana, and I cherish the connections we maintain with the diaspora. Whether it’s catching up with friends in Newcastle Upon Tyne, as Brother Danny does, or reminiscing about our beloved Georgetown through stories shared by fellow Guyanese abroad, I believe our collective experiences shape who we are. I often reflect on our past while remaining hopeful for our future, especially concerning the dynamics with our neighbors like Venezuela—may we continue to stand united as one nation.
As I navigate my journey here on the Essequibo Coast, I remain connected to the land and its traditions. I find joy in the simple pleasures—whether it’s a boat ride on the Pomeroon River or a gathering with neighbors to share stories and laughter. In my heart, I carry the spirit of Guyana and the hope that we can collectively forge a path toward a brighter future, enriched by our history and our diverse cultures.
